Cassandra Meroe Wimbs has been a delegate of National Dance
Week since 2002. She is also a winner of the Presidential
Sports Award in Dance. She has performed on tour with the
Isley Brothers and has taught classical Egyptian dance in
Egypt and performed for the Cairo Women's Club and rehearsed
with the Reda Egyptian Folkloric Troupe. Meroe is an ethnic
dancer whose favorite form is Mambo. She was trained in Moorish
dance and modern dance. And, performed with the Sun Ra Jazz
Arkestra for 15 years. As a result of her humanitarian work
in Egypt, Cassandra received a letter from Mrs. Rosalyn Carter
designating her as citizen ambassador of Friendship Force
International.
Meroe, has a certificate from the World Health Organization
for organizing a World Health Day event and has 6 governmental
proclamations from elected officials for cultural and health
observances including a congressional proclamation for National
Black Health and Fitness Month.
Ms. Wimbs continues media and health activities and teaches
at the College of New Rochelle. She performs with the Riverside
Church handbell ringers choir and studies piano.
