David Bennett,
Managing Director at Dance Space Center

David Bennett brings to Dance Space Center (DSC) a wealth of experience as an arts administrator, consultant, teacher, and performing artist. Before joining DSC, Mr. Bennett was a Senior Consultant with Arts Resources International (ARI), a division of Artec Consultants, Inc.

At ARI, he provided professional advisory services to nonprofit arts organizations and government agencies worldwide, including financial operating forecasts, market assessments and analyses, and fund-raising feasibility studies. Clients of Mr. Bennett at ARI included the City of Akureyri, Iceland; the City of St. Petersburg, Fl; the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra; Orchestra London (London, Ontario); the South Jersey Performing Arts Center; Young Circle Arts Park, Hollywood, Fl; and the Greensboro
Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Bennett studied in the graduate arts management program at the Center for Arts Administration, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, where he was awarded both a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from the Meadows School of the Arts and Master of Business Administration from the Cox School of Business.

While at the Center for Arts Administration, he worked in the Development offices of the Dallas Opera and the Dallas Museum of Art on a variety of fund-raising projects. He assisted Audience Strategies for the Arts, Inc. on audience retention campaigns for a number of American symphony orchestras, including the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. In addition, he worked with the Dallas Business Committee for the Arts and Deloitte Consulting in the preparation of an economic impact analysis of the arts on the North Texas economy.

During the summer of 2001, Mr. Bennett was selected as a Richard Shinn Fellow in Arts Administration at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. At Lincoln Center, he developed, wrote, and presented to the Executive Council of Lincoln Center, Inc. a study of recommendations for the redevelopment of Avery Fisher Hall as part of the overall planned renovation of Lincoln Center.

Prior to his studies at the SMU Center for Arts Administration, Mr. Bennett enjoyed a successful career as both a teacher of voice and as a professional singer. He held faculty positions at Texas Wesleyan University and the University of Texas at Arlington and appeared in leading roles with American opera companies (the Dallas Opera, the Fort Worth Opera, Florentine Opera of Milwaukee, Skylight Opera Theatre) and as a soloist with numerous orchestras (Concert Royal, Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony, Austin Symphony, Dallas Bach Society, Texas Baroque Ensemble). In addition his MBA and MA, he received a Bachelor of Music in Music Literature and History and completed work towards a Master of Vocal Pedagogy from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
